THE REFECTORY

CAT-B Refurbishment _ 500 sqm _ RIBA Stage 0-7_ Duration: 12 Weeks

Constructed in the 1950’s, Regents University London Refectory was one of the major projects undergoing a transformation as part of the master plan of the campus.  The Art deco style features and wall frieze and deco style door arches gave this space a unique ambiance for students to relax and socialise.

To encourage students to continue to use the facilities and increase capacity, the client constructed a mezzanine level to create an informal study area for students to use.

We undertook the coordination of design alongside the existing proposals and developed these designs further to ensure the space was fit for purpose and in line with keeping sensitive to the existing structure.

We developed the scheme to complement the art deco features with a modern furniture colour palate, We also encouraged the client to remove the existing chandeliers in favour of new pendants which we designed and developed with the lighting engineers.

Key tasks included lighting design and calculations, design team meetings, presentations, coordinating design for building services package, on-site queries and resolutions.
